Earth to commuters, take the challenge
Earth Day is right around the corner on April 22 and that means so is the Earth Day Commuter Challenge. This year’s challenge not only rewards you for your efforts, but also sweetens the pot by giving you multiple chances to win a bonus prize!
For anyone who’s participated in one of the past Earth Day Commuter Challenges, some of this will be familiar to you. What’s new is the chance to win big. During the month of April, Connecticut commuters who take part in the program will have a chance to win a $100 Peapod gift certificate from Stop & Shop. Here’s the twist. This year, one of these hunger-satisfying prizes will be given away each weekday during the entire month of April. There are twenty-one chances in all.
Here’s how to get started. If you’re already signed up at NuRide, you know what to do. Keep taking and recording those green trips via carpool, vanpool, train, bus, or by walking, biking or telecommuting. If you’re not registered at NuRide, getting on board is easy. Just head to www.earthdaycommuterchallenge.com and click on the ‘sign up’ button. Be sure to check out all the great benefits, too. With NuRide, you’ll earn reward points for every green trip entered. These points can be redeemed at participating restaurants and retailers. Plus you’ll be entered to win one of those $100 Peapod gift certificates.
Of course rewards and the sweet gift certificate aside, there’s an even bigger reason to participate. When you leave the car at home and take a greener way to work you’re making a positive impact. Last year, Connecticut residents who participated in the Earth Day Commuter Challenge helped prevent over 2,000 tons of emissions while taking over 6 million vehicle miles off the road — that’s like having all the highways in Connecticut empty for 1 hour and 40 minutes. All while saving over $1 million in commuting costs. That includes over 290,000 gallons of gas, or about 32 tanker trucks worth. Not bad for a challenge that’s great for the Earth and all of us who travel on it. If you need help finding a greener way to go in Connecticut, use the links provided here on this site. Then join the challenge at www.earthdaycommuterchallenge.com.
